100 year-old ‘Grammy’ rides horse as Grand Marshall in Lamar Parade

LAMAR, Mo. – The Lamar Rotary Parade featured a Grand Marshall, who has made her own history in town.
June French rode her horse as the Grand Marshall and is 100-years old.

French rode at the front of the 76th annual parade with a wagon full of her kids, grandkids and great grandkids behind her to honor her. They refer to French as ‘Grammy’ and held signs and t-shirts that said “My Grammy rides horses how ’bout yours? And she’s 100 years young!”.

French has lived in Lamar all her life and has ridden a horse in the parade almost every year as a representative for the Saddle Club.
This was her first year riding as Grand Marshall.

“It was different because it has been so long since I have ridden, and for some reason or another, they didn’t put my saddle on tight enough. I kept riding to the right and one of my grand daughters would run up to the side every once in a while and scoot the saddle over, she was afraid I was gonna fall off I guess” adds French.

She says her favorite part was seeing people she has not seen in a while.

The parade is a part of the Lamar Free Fair, which is full of carnival rides, food, games and more.
